A pottery barn during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods

The people take food as the sky, and diet occupies the first position of need in the historical process of human survival and development, so the pottery barn buried in the tomb just reflects the people's care for the life of people after death. This pair of barn ware excavated in the Central Plains (Fig. 1) is made of argillaceous pottery, restrained above the shoulders, rounded mouth, and no lid. Slowly retracted below the shoulders, round bottom, warehouse body cylinder, the warehouse body is divided into five zones bounded by four chords, the whole body is embossed with a rope pattern, and the bottom of the warehouse body has a circular opening. This is a typical Spring and Autumn Warring States period printed hard pottery, printed hard pottery is made of clay with high iron content, the surface is printed geometric patterns, firing temperature is higher than pottery, generally purple brown, gray brown or yellowish brown. Printed hard pottery vessels with a high degree of sintering, which can make a sound of gold and stone when struck with a finger. At that time, people's attention to life and life in society affected the production of funerary vessels from different levels. This pair of ceramic barn jars can be said to be the epitome of grain storage facilities in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods.
The Spring and Autumn Warring States period is a key period for the formation and development of China's traditional agricultural economy, and human farming methods have evolved from "slash and burn" to "iron plough and oxen farming", and social productivity has also increased significantly. At this time, the rulers promoted the political and economic policy of "heavy peasants and suppressing commerce", which promoted the further development of China's feudal economy.
At the same time, in this historical period, princes competed for hegemony, social turmoil and drastic changes. The soldiers and horses did not move, and the grain and grass went first. Food and grass supply is not only the fatal line that determines the outcome of a war, but also affects the course, depth and direction of war. In order to stabilize society, prevent accidents, and solve the problem of military food supply and poor food supply, the importance of food reserves is naturally placed on the same level as governing the country. The ruins of the Warring States granary (Fig. 61), which exists in the south of Yuanjia Village, a border port in Xingan County, is an important target of the competition between the great powers at that time, the granary is rectangular in plan, 5.11 meters long and 0 meters wide, sitting east facing west, judging from a large number of tiles and pillar holes, this is a civil structure house with a tiled roof. The granary site is located on the edge of the Gan River, and four parallel longitudinal ditches have been opened on the ground in the warehouse, about 5.61 meters wide and 1 meters long, and the distance between the ditches is 4.<> meters. According to research, the purpose of the vertical and horizontal ditching of the grain silo floor is to strengthen the circulation of indoor underground air and prevent the rice grain from being damp, which is an important invention of the ancestors in the storage of grain more than <>,<> years ago.
